This is Michael
Forster's second book for parents and children to share at bedtime,
following the enormous success of A Story, a Hug and a Prayer.
Here are another forty bible stories which, while firmly grounded in
sound Scripture, are written with a terrific sense of fun - often
revealing an enlightening new angle to reinforce the relevance of
the Bible to our lives today.
There are prayers to say together
after each story, making this a wonderful way of encouraging
children to pray.
FOREWORD
Getting children to bed can be an activity which takes us through
the whole gamut of emotions from exasperation to hilarity. The
intention of this book, which follows the patter of A Story, a
Hug and a Prayer, is that it should be fun while also being a
chance to explore ideas. Most important, though, is that it should
be an opportunity to enjoy and develop the relationships within
which we all grow and in which we encounter God.
The traditional
practice of kneeling at the side of the bed would not be the best
way to use this book; it's really about relating - to each other
first, and thereby to God. So use it as freely as you like, with
plenty of ad libs, laughs and cuddles, and don't be afraid to be
undignified! It is my profound belief and earnest hope, that God has
a sense of humor and loves to be involved in the fun we have. So
although the stories and the prayers will certainly include some
serious moments, it is important that they should not become heavy.
Most of all, they must be a positive experience of love and the
assurance of God's care. In particular, the confession which is part
of every set of prayers should be a chance for unburdening and
reassurance, not the building up of more guilt and this is a point
where a cuddle might be more especially appropriate.
Please take these
stories and prayers and make them your own; but most importantly of
all, enjoy them. Then I firmly believe that God will, as
well.
